Job postings

Selected job links

Eight doors, chosen because a student can act on them. The long list is still there if you already know what you are looking for.

Each note says who the door is for. It does not say that you will be admitted. Eligibility, dates, and documents are whatever the current official notice says.

IndiaBioscience, if you want one board

For final-year students, PhD applicants, and postdocs who want to see the Indian market as it is this month. indiabioscience.org/jobs aggregates posts that would otherwise be scattered across institute PDFs.

NCBS and JGEEBILS, if you want a PhD in basic biology

For people finishing a bachelor’s or master’s who want a research PhD rather than a taught course. Start at NCBS and read the current admissions note. JGEEBILS is a shared examination route into several Tata Institute and related centres. The participating list changes. Believe this year’s PDF, not a memory of last year’s.

CSIR-UGC NET and INSPIRE, if you need a fellowship

For Indian nationals at the points in the pipeline where a fellowship, not a supervisor’s grant, decides whether you can continue. Track the NET through the National Testing Agency and the rules through CSIR HRDG. INSPIRE is a different scheme, with different ages and degrees. DST describes it at the INSPIRE scheme page, and applications go through the portal that page names. Do not merge them in your head.

India Alliance, if you are planning a long game

Not a first job. A set of fellowships that later decide who can run an independent group. Reading indiaalliance.org in a master’s degree is how you learn what “track record” will mean in ten years, while there is still time to do a real project.

IISc and the IISER pattern, if you want the university route

For integrated PhDs, PhDs, and project posts inside a university rather than a single-mission institute. IISc publishes its own admissions. Each IISER does too; IISER Pune is the example. Apply where the science matches, not where the brochure is glossiest.

Nature Careers and Science Careers, if you are looking outward

For a first honest look at how posts are described internationally, including industry. Nature Careers and Science Careers. A foreign advertisement is not an invitation. Visas, degrees, and money are part of the method, not an afterthought.

EMBL, EMBO, and EURAXESS, if Europe is the plan

For PhD students and postdocs. EMBL jobs, EMBO funding, and EURAXESS. EMBL’s PhD program is a specific competition. EMBO’s fellowships assume you already have a host. Read which one you are.

NIH training and Wellcome, if you want to understand the money

For people who keep meeting these names in acknowledgements and have never looked up what they are. NIH training explains the American biomedical ladder. Wellcome’s funding pages explain a different one. You are not applying by reading. You are learning why the jobs exist.
