Contributions
Science is a chain of named work. These two pages refuse both a national boast and a list that only faces the Atlantic.
A contribution here means a result, a method, a collection, or an institution that other biologists still use. It is not a ranking of human worth, and it is not a complete census. People are filed under India when the life or the main work is Indian, including Indians who did part of that work abroad. The world page is the complementary shelf, not a higher one.
Where a prize was shared, the page says shared. Where a popular story has erased a collaborator, the collaborator is put back.
The two shelves
IndiaContributions from IndiaBose, Janaki Ammal, Sahni, SubbaRow, Maheshwari, Salim Ali, Ramachandran, Khorana, Siddiqi, Ranadive, Swaminathan, Ramakrishnan, Kang.
WorldContributions from the worldDarwin and Wallace, Mendel, Pasteur and Koch, Franklin, McClintock, Sanger, Woese, Margulis, Tu Youyou, Goodall, the ribosome, CRISPR, ancient DNA, mRNA vaccines.
Cross-links run both ways. Khorana is on the Indian page and inside the story of the code. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan is on the Indian page; Ada Yonath and Thomas Steitz are on the world page, because the ribosome was a three-laboratory Nobel Prize.
How to read a profile
Each note says what the person did, why it still matters, and one limit on the legend. None of them is a full biography. If you are writing a school project, use the note as a map and go to a primary paper or a serious biographical source before you add adjectives.
